How to wash your braids properly?

Share:

One of the most common questions after getting braids is: "Can I wash my hair?".

The answer is: yes. A clean scalp is an important part of good care, but washing needs to be careful.

Don't be afraid of water – be afraid of improper maintenance.

How often should braids be washed?

It all depends on your scalp, your natural hair, the type of braids, your lifestyle, your physical activity, and the amount of products you use. It's important to keep your scalp clean.

Braids can be beautiful and well-groomed when you give them the right care.

A clean scalp, gentle washing, good drying, and protection while sleeping are the foundation of a long-lasting hairstyle.

Washing braids – how

Step 1: prepare the hair

Before washing, carefully separate the braids and leave them loose. The goal of the water is to reach the scalp without rubbing or untangling the braids. Use lukewarm to slightly warm water.

Step 2: Cleanse the scalp

Dilute the shampoo with a little water to make it easier to spread. Wet your hair and apply the shampoo mainly to your scalp. Focus on the areas between the braids and the roots.

Massage your scalp gently with your fingertips. Do not rub the braids themselves aggressively.

Step 3: rinse well

Rinsing is extremely important to remove any shampoo residue. Let the water run through the braids, lengths, and scalp.

Step 4: if necessary – repeat

If there is more product build-up or oiliness, a second, lighter wash can be done. You don't need to use a large amount of shampoo.

Step 5: dry very well

This is one of the most important steps. After washing, gently squeeze out excess water without twisting the braids aggressively.

Then use a clean towel and let your hair dry thoroughly. If necessary, use a hair dryer on a suitable, not too high temperature.

Thicker and longer braids may take longer to dry. NEVER go to bed with wet braids.
